Funerals & Memorials

The music at a funeral or memorial service is a matter of a very fine balance. It shouldn't sound mournful, nor overtly cheerful. Harp music achieves this balance almost magically. Even the simplest old hymn tunes take on a new life on the harp. Something about the harp's resonance gives any tune it plays a dreamy ethereal quality which provides a warm and comforting feeling. It's no wonder to me that harps have always been associated with heaven and angels. People tell me time and again what peace the sound of the harp brings them.

Funeral/Memorial services often include special music or hymns. If you have a piano available, I am available to provide accompaniment to a special selection by a friend or relative (fee to be arranged). I have also accompanied church services for almost 30 years, and can play any hymns you may want to include. I am a very good sight reader, so only a little notice is required.

Harp music is also very comforting in a post-service gathering, as it can be something soft and unobtrusive in the background, "warming" the room. And, of course, the harp is portable, so it doesn't need to be confined to a sanctuary.

My fee for a typical funeral or memorial service is $250 which would include thirty minutes of music before and after the service, plus any hymns required. New music/special selections can be arranged separately for a small fee. Post-service or any additional background music would fall under my 'special music' rate of $175 for the first hour, and $100 for a second hour.
